I did my internship under the guidance of Dr.Anshu Bhardwaj, scientist IMTECH-CSIR and Ms.Tina Sharma, Senior research fellow there.

I got a chance to work in Bioinformatics center there on the ongoing project on Antimicrobial Drug Resistance in Acinetobacter baumannii, a gram-negative bacillus. In recent years, it has been designated as a "red alert" human pathogen by WHO, generating alarm among the medical fraternity, arising largely from its extensive antibiotic resistance spectrum. It causes a wide spectrum of infections that include pneumonia, bacteremia, meningitis, urinary tract infection, and wound infection.

This phenomenon of multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens has increasingly become a cause for serious concern and thus we aimed to computationally study the drug resistance profile of Acinetobacter baumannii to find the drugable targets and to create a database which can serve to provide the resistance profile of Acinetobacter baumannii. We mapped its genome by 16srRNA sequencing and found out the resistant genes in its genome depending upon which the various species of it were classified as MDR(multidrug-resistant), TDR(total drug-resistant) and XDR(extremely drug-resistant) along with the antibiotics to which they show resistance/susceptance (if any).

I really enjoyed this project work and it was a wonderful opportunity to work with such pedants in the field of Drug Resistance in such a reputed institute.
